Civil Misticism

Painting /graphics / photo / video / objects

March 14 – 28, 2014

The art peoject “Civil mysticism” will start on the 14th of March, 2014 in Modern Art Reserach Institute.

Due to recent revolutionary changes in Ukraine, nowadays many people have witnessed the emergence of new level of social relations, set up not on control, but due to self-organization and public initiative. Awareness of own participation in the process and changes that gives millions of people belief, removes their phobias and fears, releasing powerful forces to fight any attempts of encroachment.

Spontaneous course of events prove inefficiency of mind to serve in critical situation. Many things are reflected in emotions and experiences affecting everyone, who stand on civil liberties, regardless of individual differences.

Contemporary art in this situation is able to detect immediate thoughts and experiences of the participants and witnesses of actual events, something that can not be purely analyzed by political science.

The majority of the art works were created during unforeseen happenings: from peaceful demonstrations to the point of public confrontation, etched in the memory by the loss of human lives. In “Civil mysticism” we strive to create an experimental space for eloquent artists’ reaction on recent events in Ukraine history.
