M17 Sculpture Prize ceremony

ARTCult Foundation is an event partner

02 March 21

On Saturday, 27 February, the M17 Contemporary Art Center hosted the award ceremony for the first M17 Sculpture Prize in three-dimensional art. ARTСult Foundation was a partner of the event.

For the second stage, the jury selected four nominees among 12 projects, including Marta Dyachenko, "Flying Island"; Daniel Shumikhin, "Unstable connections to the forthcoming in given conditions"; Mykhailo Alekseenko's "Crystal Dream"; and Daniil Galkin's "Starfall".

The Grand Prize of UAH 250,000 from the main project partner Adamovskiy Foundation was granted to Mykhailo Oleksiyenko, the creator of the Crystal Dream. Two more nominees received special awards from the partners. Thus, SEARCH Foundation has awarded Andriy Kyrychenko the prize for the work “Books” in the nomination “For the preservation and development of ceramic traditions”. Berkeley Real Estate, partners of The Berkeley World in Ukraine awarded Daniil Shumikhin for the sculpture “Unstable connections to the forthcoming in given conditions” in the nomination “For the artistic understanding of the influence of architectural forms”.

"All the 12 projects included in the exhibition can certainly be called winners. Taking part in the award required a fierce selection process among the 200 entries, going from idea to implementation, but we hope that every nominee was able to gain brand new knowledge and experience. The jury had a tough time, as our jurors were unable to visit the exhibition due to the pandemic and watched the entries online.

The jury had to turn down many worthy entrants, but each of the entries submitted by our nominees deserves a special mention. We are confident that our artists will create and implement more than one significant project both in Ukraine and abroad."

~ Nataliya Shpytkovska, Director of the Contemporary Art Center M17

The jury comprised experts in three-dimensional art from around the world - Marianne Wagner, curator of Münster Sculpture Park project; Helen Pheby, Head of Yorkshire Sculpture Park curatorial program; Lisa Parola, independent curator and consultant to Fondazione Merz Contemporary Art Center. The project has been curated by Kateryna Ray.

You can find out more about the nominees as well as the news on the project page.
